Dental health: ‘‘Talk to a Dentist’’ Campaign kicks off in Osun and Ondo State
One of the most popular toothpaste brands in the world, Pepsodent, has started its “Talk to a Dentist” campaign in Osun and Ondo State as part of its continuous effort to raise awareness of oral health issues. Beginning in September 2024 and lasting until October 2024, Pepsodent and the Nigerian Dental Association (NDA) will be collaborating to engage a number of community leaders, including Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, who has expressed his warm support for the effort. Oiza Gyang, Marketing Head of Oral Care at Unilever Nigeria, discussed the campaign and said that its goal was to democratize access to dental care by providing free exams and treatments.
She emphasized Pepsodent’s dedication to tackling Nigeria’s pervasive lack of access to dental care, which has led to untreated diseases like cavities that have a major negative impact on productivity and quality of life. Gyang also said that the NDA has been essential in helping to address these issues, emphasizing that Pepsodent’s collaboration with dentists for community outreach and care has given millions of Nigerians the confidence to take better care of their teeth. She went on to say that the campaign’s national launch is a significant step in establishing Pepsodent as a pioneer in democratizing access to dental care. Pepsodent’s brand manager, Mary Gbemisola Akindola, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to ending oral illnesses through its collaboration with the NDA.
In his speech, Dr. Tope Adeyemi, the President of the Nigerian Dental Association (NDA), said that Unilever’s long-term investment in this and other ambitious projects makes it impossible to overstate their contribution to enhancing oral health in Nigeria through dental hygiene and healthcare services. To improve oral health care across the country, Dr. Adeyemi stated that the association would keep up its tight collaboration with Unilever. Several local government districts in Ondo and Osun States, including Okitipupa, Ondo West, Akure South, Odigbo, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, and Osogbo, have been visited by the “Talk to a Dentist” program.
