A group of suspected cultists attacked a football viewing centre on Coca-Cola Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State on Wednesday night, leaving a 19-year-old dead and two others injured by stray bullets.
The shooting happened around 9:05 p.m. while people were gathered to watch a football match. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and terrifying, with the gunmen firing randomly and sending spectators fleeing in all directions.
“They just appeared and started shooting everywhere. Everyone ran for their lives it felt like a battlefield,” a witness told SaharaReporters anonymously.

The 19-year-old, whose name has not yet been officially released, was reportedly shot in the head and died on the spot. “He was just lying there, covered in blood. It was terrible,” the source added.
Two others who were hit by stray bullets were quickly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Another witness, whose wife owns a shop near the scene, recounted hearing gunshots and rushing to the area. “When I got there, I saw a young man in a pool of blood. It was shocking,” he said.
He added that he informed police officers conducting a stop-and-search operation under the A-Division bridge. “I approached the officers and told them what happened. They said they would respond,” he explained.
However, at the time of reporting, it remained unclear what actions the police had taken. Repeated attempts by SaharaReporters to get a response from Kwara State Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi were unsuccessful, as she did not answer calls or respond to text messages.
