In a major policy shift, Facebook will begin deleting live videos that are older than 30 days, starting from July 1, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg announced the update on Tuesday, emphasizing that the move is aimed at optimizing the platform’s storage and enhancing user experience. Under the new policy, all live-streamed videos will be automatically removed after 30 days unless users choose to download and save them elsewhere.

The decision has sparked mixed reactions among content creators and social media influencers, many of whom rely on Facebook Live for audience engagement and content archiving. Some users have raised concerns about losing valuable content, while others see it as a way to declutter the platform.

Meta has yet to release further details on whether exemptions will be made for certain accounts or if an option to extend video lifespan will be introduced.

Facebook Live, launched in 2016, has become a widely used feature for real-time broadcasting, particularly in news reporting, entertainment, and social activism. The upcoming changes signal a shift in Meta’s content management strategy as the company continues to evolve its digital policies.
