Court remands Pastor for abuse of minor in Ondo
Oluwasegun Victor, a 31-year-old pastor from the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ondo State, has been remanded to a Correctional Centre for impregnating a minor and four other young girls.
Victor appeared in an Akure Chief Magistrate court, facing a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor on July 24, 2024, in the Oba-Ile area. He was arraigned by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on this charge.
Prosecutor David Ebriku stated that the offense violated Section 31(1) of the Child Rights Law of Ondo State 2007, punishable under Section 31(2). Ebriku requested the court to remand Victor to a Correctional Centre.
The charge against Victor reads: “That you, Olusegun Victor, male, 31 years old, on July 24, 2024, at about 1 pm at No 73 Owode, off airport road, Oba-Ile, Akure, did commit a felony by having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, Miss Precious Olisemeke, 15 years old, contrary to Section 31(1) of the Child Rights Law of Ondo State 2007, and punishable under Section 31(2) of the same law.”
The court did not take Victor’s plea as it lacked jurisdiction over the case. Prosecutor Ebriku’s request for remand was granted.
Victor’s lawyer, Mr. Alex Odunayo Olademehin, requested time to respond to the remand application. Magistrate Taiwo Lebi ordered Victor’s remand and set the next hearing for September 19, 2024, to address the bail application.
