The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received a petition calling for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Nigerian Senate. The petition was submitted on Monday, March 24, 2025, by a group of registered voters from Kogi Central Senatorial District under the banner of Concerned Kogi Youth and Women. INEC’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, formally received the document at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to the group’s leader, Charity Ijoshe Omole, the petitioners have lost confidence in the senator due to alleged misconduct that resulted in her suspension from the Senate. She stated that the absence of representation for Kogi Central in the Senate was unacceptable, prompting them to initiate the recall process. Omole further claimed that out of 488,000 registered voters in the district, over 250,000 had signed in support of the recall.

Addressed to INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the petition titled “Constituents Petition for the Recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Grounds of Loss of Confidence” cites constitutional provisions and INEC regulations as the basis for the recall demand. The petitioners recalled that Akpoti-Uduaghan was declared the winner of the Kogi Central senatorial election by the Court of Appeal on October 31, 2023, under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, they accuse her of gross misconduct, abuse of office, disregard for due process, and deceptive behavior, which they claim have damaged the reputation of Kogi Central, the Senate, and Nigeria’s democratic institutions. The petition asserts that more than half of the registered voters in the district have signed in support of her removal and urges INEC to commence the recall process immediately, leading to the declaration of her seat as vacant.
