A violent clash between two communities in Ondo State has led to the death of six individuals, with another four killed in a separate incident on Friday. The violence took place in Gbalegi village, located on the border between Idanre and Akure. Tensions had been building in the area before the attack occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Friday. The victims were initially taken to a local police station before being moved to the morgue in Akure.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed receiving a distress call reporting that a group of thugs had gathered in the Gbalegi area, a disputed region between Akure and Idanre, and attacked residents. In response, the police apprehended seven suspects who were found in possession of charms, seven single-barrel guns, and a supply of live and spent ammunition. Police spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami stated that further investigation in nearby bush areas uncovered more bodies, some of which were shot.
The Commissioner of Police urged caution in handling boundary disputes and recommended that affected communities seek legal redress in court rather than resorting to violence.
