The incident, which happened last week Tuesday, July 9, was reported to have involved three Cleric, identified as Aliyu Musa, Aliyu Taiye, and Wasiu Babatunde in Omi-ifon in Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State The Hope Newspaper reports that the victim identified sumply as Taiwo, died on Friday, July 5, 2024, and was buried on the same day, while the clerics officiated. An eyewitness who spoke on the incident said some of the items found in the clerics’ homes include a pestle and a mortal, concoction, sponge, and black pot, among others.
The guardian of the deceased, Risikat Bisiriyu, described her struggle as follows: “The boy was sick, so I took him to a maternity center for treatment.” Later on, the General Hospital in Ore was recommended to him. But the boy passed away when they arrived. “I sobbed deeply, drawing the notice of the nearby residents.” We invited the clerics to do the funeral since we are Muslims by faith and we planned to bury the boy that same day. “One of the clerics carrying the corpse went deep into the bush to bury the youngster when we arrived at the burial site. However, the father of the deceased’s younger sibling asked that the child be buried at a certain location, not far inside the bush.
On Friday, the child passed away. So, on Monday at around ten in the morning, as we were outside the house, the cleric’s wife came over and said she had no idea what her husband had brought into the house that smelled. However, we ignored what she stated. On Monday night, about 11 p.m., we started to hear the clergyman banging on things till 4.30 a.m. I responded in jest that only God knew what he was banging on all night long, causing us to lose sleep. “The cleric’s wife contacted me again the day after I got home from the market, expressing her suspicion that her husband was beating the corpse of Taiwo, who had just passed away. However, I told her not to speak. I told the father of the deceased’s younger sibling. In response, he said he had also heard about it. Thus, we started to suspect. When we excavated the child’s body with the local imam’s permission, we saw that the child’s hands and head had been severed. We had arrived at the child’s dispersed grave. After the event was reported to the police, the three people were taken into custody and charged in court. They were accused of breaching the Ondo State 2006 Criminal Code Law’s sections 517 and 516A(1), 242(1)(b), and 213(b). Judge Festus Akinlolu postponed making a decision on the bail until August 26.
