A group of civil activists from the Organisation of Justice for Equity Sustenance has demanded that Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac, the Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State, provide evidence to back up her controversial claim that Betty Akeredolu, the wife of the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was responsible for his death.

At a press conference in Abuja, the activists revealed they had obtained a WhatsApp conversation in which Mrs. Isaac allegedly stated that the late governor did not die from cancer, as commonly believed, but was instead killed by his wife. According to the group, Mrs. Isaac claimed that Betty Akeredolu physically pushed her husband, causing a fatal rush of blood to his brain.

The Organisation of Justice for Equity Sustenance has given Mrs. Isaac a seven-day deadline to provide credible proof of her accusations, or face legal consequences and public protests. They also called for the Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter.

A representative from the group emphasized the seriousness of the allegation, stating that such a claim against a public figure like Betty Akeredolu could severely damage the reputation of the Akeredolu family and the late governor, whose death was previously explained by medical reasons.

In addition to the activists’ demand for legal action, the National Civil Society Council of Nigeria confirmed that it has received a formal petition regarding the issue and is reviewing the allegations to determine the appropriate course of action.

If Mrs. Isaac fails to substantiate her claims, the activists have vowed to organize larger protests and further actions, mobilizing civil society organizations from Ondo State and beyond.
