The Federal Government of Nigeria has engaged a United States-based public affairs and lobbying firm, DCI Group, in a $9 million contract aimed at communicating Nigeria’s position on allegations of violence against Christians to U.S. lawmakers and officials.

Details of the agreement, filed with the U.S. Department of Justice, show that the Nigerian government, represented by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, through Aster Legal, entered into the six-month contract on December 17, 2025, with an option for automatic renewal for another six months.

Under the agreement, DCI Group is expected to carry out strategic communications with U.S. government officials to highlight Nigeria’s efforts to protect Christian communities and counter concerns over religious violence. The firm is also tasked with sustaining U.S. support for Nigeria’s security operations against jihadist groups and other destabilising forces in West Africa.

The contract provides for a monthly retainer of $750,000, covering professional fees and expenses. Payments are structured into two instalments of $4.5 million each, with the first instalment reportedly paid on December 12, 2025, ahead of the contract’s commencement.

The engagement comes amid increasing scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers and advocacy groups over reports of attacks on Christians in Nigeria. The U.S. government had previously redesignated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over allegations of Christian genocide, claims the Nigerian government has consistently denied.

Nigerian authorities have maintained that the violence in parts of the country is driven by terrorism and criminality rather than religious persecution, stressing ongoing efforts to address insecurity.

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to continued diplomatic engagement with the United States to clarify the situation, counter the genocide narrative, and outline measures being taken to improve security and protect all citizens, regardless of religious affiliation.
