China to premiere 35 films in Nigeria

China plans to showcase 35 films, TV series, and documentaries in Nigeria by the end of 2024 to promote Chinese culture. This initiative was announced by Mr. Yang Jianxing, Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Chinese Film and Television Broadcast Month, organized by the China Cultural Centre and StarTimes Nigeria in Abuja.

The event aims to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and recent discussions between the Presidents of China and Nigeria. It seeks to highlight the unique aspects of Chinese culture and showcase contemporary China’s economic and social achievements, fostering mutual understanding and connections between the two countries.

Mr. Yang emphasized the role of film and television as crucial tools for cultural exchange in our globalized world. The exhibition will run from November to December and will feature the 35 Chinese works across various platforms, including NTA Entertainment and ST Kungfu. These productions will reflect the emotions and aspirations of the Chinese people, offering a rich visual and cultural experience.

He expressed hope that Nigerian audiences would gain deeper insights into China and appreciate the friendship between the two nations.

Mr. Joshua Wang, CEO of NTA-Star TV Network, highlighted the festival’s role in celebrating storytelling and cultural diversity, noting StarTimes’ efforts to enhance cultural exchanges between China and Nigeria.

Patricia Roberts, Minister of Art, Culture, Creative Economy, and Tourism, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to fostering cultural collaboration, stating that initiatives like the China-Africa Goods Partners program will strengthen ties and promote mutual respect between the two countries.
