Chief Judge approves LG Election request to vacation court_Ondo

Attorney and human rights activist Tope Temokun requested that a lawsuit he filed be moved to the vacation court for an expedited hearing. The Chief Judge of Ondo State granted his request.

Temokun filed a lawsuit against the governor of Ondo State and the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) as soon as the Supreme Court gave local governments financial autonomy. Temokun asked the court to order the governor and the ODIEC to hold local government elections in the state in order to fill the elective positions in the 18 local government areas.

However, due of the urgency of the case, the rights activist had on Wednesday sent a letter to the state’s chief judge asking that the hearing be moved to vacation court and moved to an earlier date. The state’s chief judge granted the motion, and the subject will now be heard by the vacation court on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
