Youth groups in the Niger Delta have highlighted what they believe is a “silent revolution” or “civilian revolution” happening in Nigeria, particularly within the Ministry of Interior. They credit the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (PhD), for initiating positive changes and demonstrating what young leaders can achieve if given the chance. These groups, which span political affiliations and lack tribal or religious biases, applaud his efforts as evidence of good governance.

Darlington Nwauju, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, emphasized the transformative policies and programs at the Ministry, calling them revolutionary. He praised the Ministry’s achievements under Tunji-Ojo, describing the Minister as a symbol of excellence, teamwork, and frugality. Nwauju noted that the Ministry, once considered ineffective, is now viewed as a model of performance and innovation. Key accomplishments include the promotion of over 50,000 paramilitary officers, the rehabilitation of correctional centers, the launch of biometric passports, the installation of eGates at international airports, and the establishment of a Command and Control Centre.

The Niger Delta Rights Agenda (NDRA) also lauded the Ministry’s initiatives, especially the opening of a Garment & Shoe Factory in Aba, Abia State, which they believe will boost the local economy and create jobs, particularly for inmates. They also highlighted a similar project in Borno State. The NDRA called for increased funding for the Ministry to further support these efforts and transform the nation’s correctional facilities.

Other groups are recognizing the positive developments at the Ministry of Interior, an area once criticized for its inefficiency. This widespread support for Tunji-Ojo, especially from the Niger Delta, underscores the growing appreciation for his work in the Ministry.
