A Nigerian police inspector, identified as Olowookere Michael, has been captured on video viciously attacking his wife in front of their frightened children after she asked for financial assistance to pay their school fees.

The disturbing footage shows the officer raining punches on his wife while their children cry and plead for him to stop the violence.

A source within the Nigeria Police confirmed the incident, saying it occurred under the jurisdiction of Zone XI Command Headquarters in Osogbo. According to the insider, the altercation began when the woman asked for help in covering part of their children’s unpaid school fees, which had led to the children being sent home during third-term examinations.

“When she brought up the issue of school fees, he reacted violently and began to assault her—something he reportedly does often,” the source stated.

It was further disclosed that Inspector Olowookere has a well-known history of domestic violence and frequently attacks his wife over minor disagreements. This latest assault has prompted concern from within the police hierarchy.

The incident comes at a time when the Nigeria Police Force is under scrutiny for attempting to suppress an upcoming peaceful protest aimed at demanding better welfare for police officers. The protest, planned by rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, is intended to support retired officers seeking improved salaries and pension benefits.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that police authorities had issued directives to regional commands to stop the protest from going ahead. A wireless message, dated July 8, 2025, and marked DTO: 081145/07/2025, ordered Commissioners of Police in Asaba (Delta State) and Benin (Edo State) to act swiftly.

The message, originating from the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) overseeing Zone 5 in Benin, was also forwarded to the Inspector General of Police at Force Headquarters in Abuja and other top officials. It revealed that the police leadership had received intelligence suggesting Sowore planned to lead or participate in the demonstration alongside retired officers.

In response, Zone 5 authorities instructed immediate steps to halt the protest.
