Breaking: Bayelsa West Senator Seriake Dickson Defects from PDP
Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dickson announced his resignation from the PDP during a media briefing in Abuja, citing unresolved internal crises within the opposition party.
According to the former governor of Bayelsa State, persistent divisions within the PDP have significantly weakened the party’s cohesion and ability to retain members.
“The irreconcilable differences in the PDP have shrunk its umbrella which could no longer accommodate many members, including myself,” Dickson said.
Dickson, a prominent figure in the PDP for years, served two terms as governor of Bayelsa State before his election to the Senate.
His exit from the party is expected to spark political reactions, particularly within the party’s ranks in Bayelsa and the wider South-South region.
The senator’s move to the NDC comes as the newly registered party begins efforts to attract influential political figures and expand its national presence.
As of the time of filing this report, the leadership of the PDP had yet to issue an official response to Dickson’s defection.
