Afam Osigwe Elected as President of the Nigerian Bar Association

Afam Osigwe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has been elected as the new president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) .

He secured 20,395 votes, surpassing his closest rivals Tobenna Erojikwe and Chukwuka Ikwuazom (SAN) with 10,970 and 9,007 votes respectively.

Osigwe will succeed the outgoing president, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), and will be inaugurated at the NBA 2024 Annual Conference in Lagos between August 23 and 28.

Other elected officers in the new leadership to oversee the affairs of NBA include: Sabastine Anyia as 1st Vice-President, Mrs. Bolatumi Animashaun- 2nd Vice-President, Mrs. Zainab Garba 3rd Vice-President, Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara- General Secretary, Henry Ehi- Assistant General Secretary, Mrs. Blessing Udofa-Poromon as Treasurer, Nyada Auta- Welfare Secretary, Mrs. Bridget Edokwe as Publicity Secretary, Miss Ebiere Ekpese as Assistant Publicity Secretary

Osigwe faces challenges such as corruption in the bar and on the bench, dwindling public confidence in the judiciary and the legal profession, and discontent among various interest groups threatening to break the NBA into splinters.
