At least 22 people have been confirmed dead and 20 others injured in a single-vehicle accident involving a trailer along the Lapai–Lambata road in Niger State on Monday.
According to reports obtained by SaharaReporters, the trailer, which was en route from Kano to Lagos, was carrying both passengers and livestock. Eyewitnesses stated that most of the occupants were from Zamfara State and were travelling for business purposes.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of the day, with several victims dying instantly while others were rushed to hospitals for medical attention.
Speaking to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Niger State, Aishat Saadu, confirmed the accident. She noted that the crash happened around 3 a.m. and involved only the trailer.
“In total, 42 people were involved. Twenty-two lost their lives, and twenty sustained injuries during the crash. The injured victims were transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Lambata, while the deceased were taken to the General Hospital in Suleja,” she said.
The ill-fated vehicle was reportedly on a long-haul journey from Kano to Lagos.
