Boat mishap, 5 dead

Information surfaced that the five person boat capsized on Tuesday while attempting to cross a road that had been flooded. In Gantsa town, Buji Local Government Area, Jigawa State, a canoe is said to have overturned, resulting in the deaths of no fewer than five individuals. Lurwanu Adamu, Idris Abubakar, Fiddausi Dahiru, Ramla Nura, and Usman Adamu all residents of Malamawar Gangare, Birnin Kudu LGA were named among the deceased.

The canoe overturned and the people inside perished right away, according to DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, who confirmed the tragedy on Wednesday. “The incident happened on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at about 1200 hrs,” the announcement reads. The source’s information revealed that near Gantsa town in Buji LGA, where flooding had damaged the road, a canoe carrying five people was attempting to cross it.

“A squad of policemen hurried to the scene to rescue them after receiving the report, working with local divers.” He continued by saying that once the victims were brought to Gantsa College Hospital, the on-call physician pronounced them dead and gave their corpses to kin to be buried.
