Celebrating an Icon and embodiment of Dedication and Service: Dr. Nimibofa Ayawei’s 53rd Birthday

High Chief Prince Toikumoh Toboulayefa ThankGod, popularly known as General Osuwogidigidi I, “The Threelions of Niger Delta,” celebrates Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, a distinguished leader and scholar, on his birthday.

Born on November 7, 1971, to Mr. Joshua E. Ayawei and Mrs. Flora E. Ayawei of Koluama 2 in Southern Ijaw LGA, Bayelsa State, Prof. Ayawei’s educational journey reflects his relentless pursuit of knowledge. He began his studies at St. John’s Primary School, Koluama 2, before attending Community Secondary School in his hometown, where he got his West African School Certificate in 1988.

In 1991, Prof. Ayawei began his tertiary education at the Premier University of Ibadan, obtaining a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Chemistry in 1995. His academic pursuits took him further to the University of Port Harcourt, where he bagged an M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry in 2008. In 2015, he recorded a trail blazing achievemen and a historic milestone by becoming the first Ph.D. holder in Analytical/Environmental Chemistry from the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State.

With a sound foundation in Chemistry, Prof. Ayawei launched his career as a Scientific Officer in the Bayelsa State Ministry of Environment. His leadership skills soon led him to the Bayelsa State Scholarship Board in 2001 under Dr. D.S.P. Alamieyeseigha’s administration. In 2002, he was appointed Chairman of the Bassan-Koluama Rural Development Area, established to serve the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Prof. Ayawei’s political journey was further echoed when he was elected in 2003 to represent Southern Ijaw Constituency 4 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly. Known for his unwavering loyalty, he notably refrained from signing the impeachment order against Alamieyeseigha, a testament to his integrity and respect for those who supported him.

After his tenure as a Honourable Legislator in the Law Making Body of Bayelsa State, Prof. Ayawei ventured into private business until Governor Seriake Dickson appointed him as the General Manager/CEO of the Bayelsa State Housing and Property Development Authority from 2012 to 2014. He later served as Commissioner of Housing and Urban Development (2014-2016) and returned to academia as a lecturer at Niger Delta University.

Prof. Ayawei’s journey underscores his commitment to public service, education, and loyalty. Known for his principled stance and dedication, he remains an inspiring figure in Bayelsa’s political and educational landscapes.
