Be champions of democratic values_Ajayi to Inec

Agboola Ajayi, a former deputy governor of Ondo State and the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the upcoming governorship election, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the Edo State governorship election as an opportunity to strengthen democracy.

In a statement, Ajayi emphasized the need for INEC to establish itself as a champion of democratic values and to restore voter confidence by ensuring a credible election. He stated, “INEC has a significant task ahead to make sure the Edo election is fair and transparent, thereby avoiding any legal disputes. A credible election would benefit INEC, which has a reputation to uphold, especially given the decline in voter turnout due to a lack of trust in the electoral process.

Ajayi highlighted that the elections in Edo and Ondo States are crucial for INEC to showcase its fairness and impartiality, rather than favoring any political party.
