Atiku Resigns From PDP

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential flagbearer in the last general election, has officially withdrawn his membership from the party.

According to a letter obtained by Vanguard on Wednesday and confirmed by one of his close aides, the former Vice President made his resignation known in writing.

This development comes just weeks after Atiku spearheaded the formation of a political alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The coalition includes other prominent political figures such as Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and ex-Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai. The group aims to challenge and unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
