Asari Dokubo Reveals What Tinubu Informed Him While Accusing Soldiers of Engaging in Bunkering Activities in the Niger Delta
Former militant leader Asari Dokubo has once again made serious allegations against the Nigerian military, claiming that its members are heavily involved in oil bunkering operations in the Niger Delta. In a recent press statement, Dokubo asserted that the blame often directed at the Ijaw or Ogoni ethnic groups is misplaced; instead, he claims that soldiers are the ones orchestrating and profiting from the oil theft in the region.
Dokubo stated that the military’s involvement in these illegal activities is widely recognized and that they play a key role in perpetuating oil bunkering. His accusations underscore the persistent issues of corruption and illicit oil extraction that have long affected the Niger Delta, leading to environmental damage and loss of revenue for the Nigerian government.
He also mentioned that President Bola Tinubu had encouraged him to address the press regarding military personnel’s involvement in oil theft. According to Dokubo, the military allegedly manipulates the local population, using them as intermediaries in these operations while providing them only a small fraction of the profits.
“It is not the Ijaws, Ogonis, or any other ethnic group behind the oil bunkering, but soldiers who exploit them and offer them meager returns,” he claimed.
