Arogbo-Ibe Intellectual Corner Expresses Position on LGA and LCDA Transition Committees Appointed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa
Ondo State, Nigeria – The Arogbo-Ibe Intellectual Corner has released a statement regarding the recent appointments of LGA and LCDA transition committees by His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The group emphasizes that the Ese Odo Local Government Area has traditionally been co-shared by the Arogbo Ijaws and the Apoi Ijaws, a formula that has preserved peace between these communities for generations.
The community was shocked by the announcement of the new transition committees, expressing dismay that their Apoi brothers are already represented in the State House of Assembly. This decision has left the peace-loving people of Ese-Odo feeling discombobulated and marginalized.
It is widely known that Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) are currently non-existent in Ondo State due to a recent High Court judgment, which has not been appealed by the State Government. The Arogbo-Ibe Intellectual Corner is deeply concerned about what they perceive as the state’s lawlessness. They find it ironic that a government which professes to uphold the rule of law and justice is acting contrary to these principles.
The Arogbo Ijaws categorically reject their relegation to an LCDA instead of an autonomous Local Government. They believe the state government is intent on fostering discord between the Apoi and Arogbo communities. However, they remain confident that justice will ultimately prevail.
The group also praises the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming the absolute autonomy of the 774 Local Government Areas in the Federation. This ruling, which has rendered LCDAs and Caretaker Committees redundant, is seen as a significant step towards effective governance. They commend the Federal Government for this achievement and urge Governor Aiyedatiwa to adhere to the rule of law and serve all parts of the state equally.
