Amotekun nabs family for joint robbery
Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye of the Southwest Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, announced the recent foiling of five kidnapping attempts and the rescue of nine victims in Ondo State over the past week. This information was revealed during a parade of 20 arrested suspects at the Corps’ headquarters in Akure.
Among those apprehended was a family of robbers, consisting of a husband, wife, and their children. Commander Adeleye highlighted the Corps’ dedication to fighting crime through extensive operations in the state, particularly in known hotspots. He noted that patrols in the Elegbeka area, a notorious criminal zone, have been intensified, resulting in successful raids.
Adeleye assured the public that Amotekun Rangers have been active in nearby forests to enhance commuter safety and protect lives and property. He stated that operations will be increased in areas like Ala, Ago Oyinbo, Ogbese, Jugbere, and Ifon forests in the coming weeks, expressing confidence that these measures will alleviate insecurity in affected communities.
Additionally, he disclosed the arrest of a 28-year-old kidnapping suspect, Usman Abubakar, in Igbo Oba-Owo, who is currently being interrogated. Adeleye urged residents to collaborate with security forces by sharing timely information.
He explained that the family of robbers includes three minors, aged between 12 and 15, who are involved in home burglaries, and for privacy reasons, their identities will not be revealed. Currently, there are 15 suspects in custody related to law enforcement operations, with no recent arrests concerning ongoing investigations.
Regarding local issues, Adeleye noted that Ondo State remains peaceful with no reported violations of land or chieftaincy matters, labor union disputes, human trafficking cases, or significant conflicts related to farmers and herders. He mentioned the arrest of three suspects connected to cult activities, who were found with charms and weapons.
Overall, Adeleye assessed the security situation in Ondo State as stable, noting only one violation of the anti-open grazing law involving Muhammed Abubakar in Ita-Ogbolu. He confirmed that one suspect was also arrested in Akoko through a collaboration between the police, hunters, and Amotekun Corps, with investigations ongoing.
