Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the installation of 1,600 solar-powered streetlights and the drilling of 54 boreholes throughout the state.

These initiatives will be carried out across the three senatorial districts of Ondo State. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Engagement (Ondo Central), Mr. Oluwafemi Fadairo, revealed this during a program titled ‘The Platform’, hosted by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Akure on Thursday.

Fadairo explained that Governor Aiyedatiwa is focusing on local investments in addition to state-wide projects, addressing years of perceived neglect of grassroots areas. He stated, “Governor Aiyedatiwa is dedicated to improving our communities. Although he has been in office for less than a year, I believe his four-year term will exceed the achievements of previous administrations. His leadership has brought calm to the state, and I have facilitated these accomplishments as SSA for the central district.”

Fadairo added, “The governor has also approved the drilling of 54 boreholes, which will be overseen by our office in designated communities. Additionally, the first phase of installing 1,600 solar-powered streetlights will begin across the three senatorial districts, with a second phase to follow. During our community outreach, we identified key needs like solar lighting and improved roads for transportation.”

He emphasized that streetlights are crucial for preventing crime. “Our role includes reporting back to the governor. Recently, the Ministry of Water Resources and my office secured approval for the revitalization of the Owena Dam, which is currently underway.”

Fadairo also announced that the government has approved the construction of 20 kilometers of roads in each of the 18 local government areas. “Major road infrastructure projects will soon start across the state, reflecting the governor’s commitment to fulfilling his promises and his eagerness to serve, even before completing his first year in office,” he said.

He urged the people of Ondo State to support Governor Aiyedatiwa in the upcoming governorship election on November 16, citing the governor’s accomplishments as a reason for continued backing.
