The Ondo State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the disbursement of three months’ outstanding salaries owed to staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), as part of his determined drive to promote harmony in the state’s public sector.

The governor’s swift intervention followed weeks of industrial unrest at the polytechnic, where workers had agitated for the payment of their outstanding entitlements.

In a parallel move to resolve lingering issues in the judiciary, Governor Aiyedatiwa on Monday held a high-level meeting with leaders of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ondo State Chapter, who had downed tools on June 13, 2025, over delays in implementing financial autonomy for the judiciary.

During the talks, the governor assured judicial workers of his commitment to the independence and well-being of the judiciary.

He immediately constituted a committee to streamline the process of releasing funds to the judiciary, fulfilling the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding between the government and JUSUN.

The committee, which will be chaired by the Finance Commissioner, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac, and will include union representatives and key government officials, is expected to work out transparent and sustainable measures to actualize financial autonomy for the judiciary.

“We remain steadfast in our promise to support the judiciary and its workforce,” the governor affirmed.

“Your contributions to the administration of justice and the preservation of law and order in Ondo State are invaluable.”

Appreciating the governor’s hands-on approach, JUSUN chairman, Comrade Oluwafemi Afolabi, acknowledged that the administration had consistently prioritized the welfare of judicial workers, citing the recent appointments of new judges and progress on the state-of-the-art judiciary complex under construction in Akure as proof of the governor’s commitment.

He assured the governor that members would be promptly informed of the resolutions reached at the meeting and that the ongoing strike would be suspended without further delay.

The meeting was attended by key government figures, including Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo (SAN); Finance Commissioner, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac; and Special Adviser on Union Matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo.

With this development, Governor Aiyedatiwa continues to signal his administration’s resolve to tackle workers’ concerns head-on, while ensuring smooth relations across all arms of government for the sustained progress of Ondo State.
