Demonstrating rare political accord in the face of national turmoil, Ondo State Governor,His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday, joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and several other state governors during a high-powered visit to Benue State.

The visit comes amid renewed attacks and unrest in parts of the North-Central region, prompting the President to personally assess the situation and engage with stakeholders on ground.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, alongside his counterparts, was part of the presidential entourage that met with community leaders, security chiefs, and local authorities in a closed-door session held in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Speaking during the visit, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s unwavering resolve to restore peace across Nigeria.

“We will not fold our arms while lives are lost and communities are displaced. This is a national emergency, and our response must be swift, firm, and enduring,” the President declared.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, known for his proactive stance on regional security through the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, expressed solidarity with the people of Benue.

“Insecurity is not a Benue problem alone, it’s a Nigerian problem. We stand with our brothers and sisters in the North-Central and we’ll work with the federal government to secure every corner of this country,” he said in brief remarks to journalists after the meeting.

Also present were key security officials, traditional rulers, and civil society groups, all of whom expressed optimism about renewed federal attention to the region’s plight.

Wednesday’s visit marks a critical moment in the Tinubu administration’s engagement strategy and could signal increased collaboration between federal and state actors in the fight against banditry, herder-farmer clashes, and general insecurity.
