Adopt a more political approach _ APC tells opposition
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has called on the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to adopt a more serious political approach instead of creating tension ahead of the upcoming governorship election. Mr. Banji Okunomo, spokesman for the APC Governorship Campaign Council, made this statement during a press conference in Okitipupa.
Okunomo’s comments followed allegations made by the PDP against the APC as the election on November 16 approaches. He asserted that the PDP’s continuous accusations indicate a lack of readiness for the election, criticizing the party for not focusing on constructive campaigning.
He specifically refuted claims made by PDP Media Adviser Mr. Ayo Fadaka regarding security breaches involving an alleged APC supporter, emphasizing that these allegations are false. Okunomo urged the PDP to refrain from making statements that could escalate political tensions and defended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s character, describing him as a civil and law-abiding politician.
Additionally, he denied that the APC had appointed the Chairman of Amotekun Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, to lead its security committee, noting that Amotekun is not permitted to engage in election-related security duties. Okunomo dismissed this allegation as laughable, criticizing the PDP for making baseless accusations instead of focusing on their campaign.
He highlighted previous unfounded claims by the PDP regarding the indigeneship of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, which were later proven false. Okunomo suggested that the PDP was resorting to deceitful tactics due to a lack of substantial campaign strategy and predicted their defeat in the upcoming election.
He advised the PDP to learn from the APC’s campaign methods, which prioritize issue-based engagement over petty politics. He noted that if there were plans for electoral fraud, Aiyedatiwa could have easily relied on his incumbency rather than actively campaigning door-to-door to connect with voters.
