ADC Faults FG Over Heavy Security Presence At INEC Headquarters

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Federal Government over the deployment of security operatives and armoured vehicles to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

The opposition party described the move as a misplaced priority, especially at a time when several communities across Nigeria are facing serious security challenges.

Reacting via his social media platform, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, questioned why such a level of security deployment was not extended to areas experiencing violent attacks.

He criticised the government for allegedly focusing more on protecting institutions in the capital rather than safeguarding citizens in vulnerable regions.

The development comes amid rising political tension following INEC’s decision to derecognise a faction of the ADC leadership linked to David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.

The move has sparked protests and strong reactions from party members and supporters, further intensifying the situation around the commission’s headquarters.

Despite the commission’s stance, the ADC has insisted that it will go ahead with its planned congresses and national convention.

Speaking during a television interview, Abdullahi maintained that the party had complied with all necessary procedures, including notifying INEC ahead of the events.

“We have already given INEC the required 21-day notice for our congresses and national convention, and the process will continue regardless of whether the commission participates or not,” he stated.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions within Nigeria’s political landscape as parties prepare for future electoral activities.
