Abuja’s New Year Babies Receive First Lady’s Visit

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Wednesday visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, and the Bwari General Hospital to celebrate Nigeria’s Baby of the Year 2026 and the second baby born in the new year.
The visit, which marked part of activities to usher in 2026, was carried out alongside the Wife of the Vice President, Her Excellency Nana Shettima.

In a statement, Senator Tinubu said, “Earlier today, as part of the celebrations marking the beginning of the year, I was accompanied by Her Excellency Nana Shettima, Wife of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on a visit to the Federal Medical Centre Jabi, Abuja, to celebrate and visit the Baby of the Year 2026.”
She disclosed that the Baby of the Year was a baby girl born at exactly midnight on January 1.
According to her, “The baby girl, born to Mr. and Mrs. Celestine Adakole Acheme, weighed 3.42kg and arrived at exactly 12:00AM, making her the first baby of the year.”
The First Lady added that the delegation also visited another health facility within the Federal Capital Territory. She said, “From there, we proceeded to the Bwari General Hospital in the Bwari Area Council, where I had the privilege of welcoming the second baby of the year, born to the Titus Praise family.”
The visits were part of traditional New Year engagements by the Office of the First Lady, aimed at welcoming the first babies of the year and drawing attention to maternal and child healthcare in the country.
