The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), has strongly condemned what it described as the continuous and brutal killing of its students by individuals from the surrounding host community.

In a statement released over the weekend, the union gave the Nigerian Police Force and the Ondo State Government a 24-hour deadline to address the situation or face mass protests.

According to the SUG, the crisis began with the abduction and subsequent killing of two students, with initial investigations allegedly linking the crime to members of the Akungba community.

“We first received the heartbreaking news that two students who had been kidnapped were later found dead in a most gruesome manner. Further findings suggested that the main suspects were indigenes of the community,” the statement noted.

The union explained that, following those killings, the police and community leaders had been engaged to prevent future incidents. However, another tragedy recently occurred when a female student was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, said to be a local resident.

“From available reports, she was stabbed to death, and her body left in his room for over three days. Neighbors only discovered the decomposing corpse after a foul smell led them to break into the room,” the statement added.

The suspect has fled, while his mother has reportedly been detained by authorities in connection with the case.

In response, the student body demanded immediate intervention from security agencies and the state government.

“We stand united in demanding justice for our murdered colleagues,” SUG President Salami Akeem (Ologbon) declared. “If the culprits are not apprehended and prosecuted within the next 24 hours, we will have no choice but to launch a full-scale protest until decisive action is taken to end these repeated attacks on our students.”

The statement was copied to the Ondo State Government, the Inspector General of Police, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, the Nigerian Bar Association, and other concerned authorities.
