Kiagbodo, Delta State — February 17, 2026,
the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) commemorated the first anniversary of the death of elder statesman Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, declaring that his influence on national discourse and Niger Delta advocacy remains profound.

Clark, who died at the age of 98, was remembered as a nationalist and outspoken advocate for equity, justice and regional development.

In a statement marking the anniversary, PANDEF described him as “our father, leader, national icon and statesman,” noting that “one year, it’s like just yesterday.”
The statement recalled his final words as emblematic of his lifelong patriotism: “I am a Nigeria, I love Nigeria.”

Signed by PANDEF National Chairman, Ambassador Dr. Godknows Igali, the tribute emphasized Clark’s decades-long commitment to national unity and the political relevance of the Niger Delta and the South-South geopolitical zone.

According to the group, Clark devoted his life to “building our nation Nigeria to where truth, justice, fairness and harmony reign,” adding that his contributions to “the unity, solidarity and national relevance of the Niger Delta” would continue to be celebrated for generations.

PANDEF described the late leader as steadfast and courageous until his final days.

Your memory and voice remained firm, astute and unfailing till the torch-line. Like a lion, your courage was unmatched and resonated large and wide,” the statement read.

A Special Memorial Service was scheduled to hold at Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, founded in his honour. The institution has often been cited as part of his enduring investment in education and youth development.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation that Clark’s vision “remains aglow” and that the pursuit of justice and fairness he championed “shall certainly not flounder.”

Clark was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential voices on federalism, resource control and minority rights. One year after his passing, PANDEF maintains that his ideals continue to shape conversations around national cohesion and development.
