The Movement for the Rights of Arogbo-Ibe (MRAI) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Police Force to immediately arrest and prosecute Jude Gbaboyor and his associates for engaging in a smear campaign against prominent Niger Delta leaders.
In a strongly worded statement, MRAI accused Gbaboyor and his cohorts, operating from the United States of America, of resorting to social media blackmail against respected figures such as High Chief Oweizide Ekpemupolo a.k.a Tompolo, Engr. Mathew Tonlagha, Dr. Dennis Otuaro (Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme), and Engr. Kestin Pondi (Managing Director, Tantita Security Services Limited).
According to Hosea T. Ebikontei, Coordinator of MRAI, the deliberate spread of falsehoods and defamatory statements against these leaders is a calculated attempt to undermine the development and security of the Niger Delta region.
“The EFCC and the Nigeria Police must take decisive action against these individuals who are bent on tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of our leaders through baseless allegations,” Ebikontei said.
Bomi Stanley, Secretary of MRAI, further stressed that such acts of cyber blackmail must not be allowed to thrive, calling on relevant authorities to deploy legal mechanisms to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The group reaffirmed its unwavering support for the affected leaders, vowing to resist any attempt to sabotage their efforts in advancing the interests of the Niger Delta.
