The registration deadline for the inaugural Niger Delta Sports Festival has been extended from February 28 to March 7 due to an increase in requests from states participating in the zonal qualifiers of the National Sports Festival (NSF).
Enefiok Udo-Obong, Co-Chairman of the Technical Committee, explained the extension during a briefing with the Technical Committee and State Liaison Committees. He cited the participation of states in the NSF zonal eliminations as the reason for the adjustment.

“Due to the requests from many states and their involvement in the NSF zonal eliminations, we’ve decided to adjust our calendar,” Udo-Obong said. “Registration will now close on March 7, 2025.”
This extension also led to changes in the dates for Local Government and Constituency trials. Udo-Obong informed the State Liaison Committee members that they would receive the names of registered participants and the sports they entered by March 9, 2025.
As a result, the Federal Constituency and Local Government trials will be held between March 11 and 15, 2025.
Despite these changes, the Olympics gold medallist assured NDSF Media that the adjustments will not affect the festival’s overall schedule. “We are still on track to begin the trials and open the festival on April 1, 2025,” he confirmed.
The Niger Delta Sports Festival is the first sports initiative of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and coincides with the commission’s 25th anniversary, with the theme: “Beyond Oil, Harnessing Talents.”
