The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has raised concerns about the increasing insecurity in the state, which they attribute to the influx of unknown individuals. Adetunji Adeleye, the commander of Amotekun, reported that the presence of unfamiliar people in the state’s forests and border areas has contributed to the rise in criminal activities, including killings and kidnappings. Despite these challenges, Adeleye assured that the agency remains committed to improving the state’s security. To prevent further attacks, Amotekun plans to establish a permanent camp near hotspots of criminal activity and will collaborate with the police, Department of State Services (DSS), civil defense, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante groups. A new security control post is set to begin operations soon, serving as a deterrent and improving response times. Adeleye also highlighted the successful rescue of five kidnapped victims, including a young child, and the arrest of suspects involved in crimes like kidnapping, rape, and theft.

In a separate development, the North Central Development Initiative (NCDI) has called on governors in the North-Central region to create a regional security outfit, similar to Amotekun in the South-West and Ebubeagu in the South-East, to address the rising insecurity in the area. Musa Ali Otigba, the Director-General of NCDI, emphasized the need for a joint security network to ensure stability and enable the newly established North Central Development Commission (NCDC) to carry out its development initiatives effectively. The NCDI also reiterated its demand for the return of the APC national chairmanship position to the North-Central region, arguing that it would help balance the political structure and maintain support for the party in future elections.
