Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, a convicted kidnapping kingpin, informed the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Thursday that he had repented from his crimes and had formally requested clemency from the Lagos State Government.

Evans, speaking through his lawyer, Emefo Etudo, made this appeal after entering a plea on an amended five-count charge, which includes murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. The charges were brought against him by the Lagos State Government.

During the proceedings, state prosecutor Sule Yusuf informed the court that the case was restarting afresh and requested permission for the defendants to be re-arraigned. Neither Evans nor his co-defendant, C.N. Udeh, objected to the request.

According to the prosecution, on August 27, 2013, at around 10 p.m., Evans and Joseph Emeka allegedly murdered Peter Nweke along 3rd Avenue, FESTAC Town, Lagos. They were also accused of killing another individual, Chijioke Ngozi, on the same day.

Both Evans and Emeka pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following their plea, the prosecutor asked the court to keep them in continued detention.

Yusuf further informed the court that Evans had submitted a plea bargain application through his lawyer, while his co-defendant had also made a similar request through his legal representative.

Etudo, addressing Justice Adenike Coker, confirmed that despite the revised charges and his client’s plea, he had formally petitioned the Lagos State Government, via the Attorney General’s office, for a plea bargain.
