The U.S. Supreme Court has denied President-elect Donald Trump’s request to delay his sentencing in the criminal hush-money case, which is set for Friday. In a 5-4 ruling, the justices chose not to address whether Trump was entitled to an automatic postponement of his sentencing.

Trump was found guilty of falsifying records to hide reimbursements for a $130,000 payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels, which had been recorded as legal expenses during his 2016 campaign. Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing the case, has confirmed that Trump is not facing a jail sentence.

On Thursday night, Trump criticized the case as a “disgrace” but called the Supreme Court’s decision “fair.” He also attacked Judge Merchan, claiming he was unqualified to handle the case and accused his political opponents of misusing the legal system. On his Truth Social platform, Trump labeled the case as part of the “pathetic, dying remnants of the Witch Hunts” and vowed to remain focused.

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett sided with the three liberal justices in rejecting Trump’s request, while Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh were in favor of delaying the sentencing.
