People love my leadership _ Sim Fubara
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has stated that his administration is well-received by the public, especially civil servants, due to its people-focused policies and initiatives. He assured the public of his government’s commitment to meeting their needs, safeguarding the state from disruptions, and maintaining peace and stability.
The governor made these statements on Thursday during the launch of the Emblem Appeal Fund at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt, in preparation for the Armed Forces Remembrance Day on January 15, 2025.

Governor Fubara outlined recent achievements, including the recruitment of 2,000 medical professionals and the approval of 1,000 new teaching positions for the Universal Basic Education (UBE) and Post-Primary Schools Boards. He noted that the planned 10,000 civil service appointments had been put on hold in favor of targeted hiring for key professional roles.
“We have hired over 2,000 doctors and approved 1,000 teaching positions for the UBE and Post-Primary Schools. Our focus is on strategic, professional hiring to advance the state’s development,” Fubara said.
The governor also addressed the state’s scholarship programs, explaining that while the scholarship board has yet to be activated, scholarships have been awarded to students at PAMO University of Medical Sciences and Wigwe University.
“While we have not launched our scholarship board yet, we have given scholarships to students at PAMO and Wigwe Universities. Once our scholarship board is operational, we will broaden the scope of student support,” he said.
Governor Fubara also highlighted his government’s improvements in civil servant welfare, mentioning the significant salary increase, with workers now earning between N120,000 and N140,000 compared to the previous N70,000.
“Making people happy is the greatest joy for any government. Today, our civil servants are celebrating their improved salaries. They will remember this and recognize that this administration made a positive impact on their lives,” he said.
Regarding the Emblem Appeal Fund, Governor Fubara spoke about the importance of honoring war veterans and their families, sharing a personal connection through his late father, a military officer.
“This event holds personal significance for me because I am the child of a fallen hero. Every January, my mother would return from this event with a smile, proud of my father’s sacrifice. We must support the families of our fallen heroes, as no amount of money can truly repay their sacrifice,” Fubara stated.
He urged everyone to contribute to the cause, acknowledging the sacrifices made by the military to protect the nation’s sovereignty and unity.
