Tinubu congratulates Aiyedatiwa On Ondo Poll Victory

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on his resounding victory in the just-concluded governorship election. Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), garnered 366,781 votes to defeat Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 117,845 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Aiyedatiwa the winner on Sunday, marking a significant triumph for the ruling party in the state.

In a statement released by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended the electoral process and urged candidates dissatisfied with the outcome to seek redress through legal channels. “The President urges candidates dissatisfied with the outcome of the election to explore the opportunities provided by the judicial system to seek redress on areas of conflict,” the statement read.

Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the polls and praised INEC, the police, and other security agencies for their professionalism during the exercise. He highlighted the maturity and sense of purpose demonstrated by Aiyedatiwa and other candidates of the 17 political parties during the campaigns and election, attributing the success of the exercise to the civility exhibited in the state.

“The Ondo State election was another litmus test of the capacity of the Independent National Electoral Commission,” Tinubu noted, adding that the body justified public confidence through early preparations, effective deployment of staff and materials, and the seamless handling of the electoral process.

The President also lauded INEC for its efficiency in uploading over 98 per cent of election results on the same day, underscoring the transparency and credibility of the exercise.

Aiyedatiwa’s victory solidifies the APC’s foothold in Ondo State, with many observers viewing the election as a model for peaceful and credible polls in Nigeria.
