“Not On My Watch!” – Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr Vows to Shut Down Planned Anti-NDDC Protest
In response to an announced protest against the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) slated for November 14, 2024, by Mr. Alaye Theophilus, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide President, Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr., has issued a public statement addressing the issue and asserting his authority over the council’s activities.
Lokpobiri expressed concerns over Theophilus’s intention to use the name of the IYC to organize a protest, stating that while individuals hold the right to protest, such actions should not be undertaken in the council’s name without authorization.
“Mr. Alaye has his personal right to protest against any individual or government institution,” Lokpobiri said, “However, he does not have the authority to use the name of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, as I remain the President, responsible for overseeing all national and global affairs of the council.”
In his statement, Lokpobiri clarified that the proposed protest does not have the council’s approval and warned against unauthorized actions that may harm the council’s reputation. He cautioned Theophilus and his supporters to desist from proceeding, adding that the IYC would not tolerate “miscreants” misrepresenting the organization.
The president also informed the public that following resolutions from a recent expanded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, all council structures have been mobilized to Port Harcourt to effectively counter and contain any attempts to undermine Ijaw interests at the NDDC.
The council has advised its members and the public to steer clear of the protest, emphasizing the IYC’s commitment to safeguarding its values and protecting the interests of Ijaw representatives in government institutions.
