Ajayi backlash Aiyedatiwa says Akeredolu legacy is destroyed
Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election on November 16, 2024, has accused the current governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, of undermining the legacy of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu regarding the Amotekun security initiative. He made these claims during a debate organized by Channels Television.
Ajayi, who served as Akeredolu’s deputy during his first term, asserted that security has worsened in the state under Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate. He highlighted the significant role Akeredolu played in establishing Amotekun in response to rising crime, stating that the current administration is failing to uphold that legacy.

Ajayi criticized Aiyedatiwa for not understanding the struggles involved in forming Amotekun, suggesting that the incumbent governor is indifferent to enhancing the security outfit. He promised that if elected, he would improve security by equipping Amotekun with modern technology to ensure it can effectively compete with global security forces.
