Gun men attack sports journalists
A group of DStv sports journalists traveling to cover the African Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was attacked and kidnapped. The Anambra State Police confirmed that six crew members have been rescued.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police, reported that the media crew was abducted on the Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala Local Government Area while en route from Lagos to Uyo. Joint security forces conducted a rescue operation, successfully recovering six journalists.
Ikenga stated, “Joint security forces have successfully rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while traveling from Lagos to Uyo along Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala.” He added that efforts are ongoing to rescue the seventh crew member, and further updates will be provided.
Additionally, Colin Udoh, a prominent journalist and former employee of the broadcast station, confirmed that one crew member was killed. He tweeted, “A journalist, one of my former SuperSport colleagues, was killed yesterday during the kidnapping of the production crew heading to Uyo for Friday’s game against Libya. Some crew members have been freed, while at least two others remain missing.”
