The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has reported that 281 inmates are missing after a severe flood hit Maiduguri.

The flood, which submerged more than half of Maiduguri and surrounding areas, caused significant damage to the correctional facilities, including the Medium Security Custodial Centre Maiduguri (MSCC) and staff quarters.

According to NCoS spokesman Umar Abubakar, despite efforts by the service and other security agencies to evacuate inmates to a safe location, 281 inmates were found to be missing.
