Fuel Price Scandal: Dangote Refinery Unearths NNPCL’s Deception

Published

on

With fierce denial, Dangote Refinery has refuted claims made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) that they sold fuel at an inflated price of N898 per litre.

Dangote Refinery described the assertion as a blatant lie, aimed at sabotaging the company’s efforts to address Nigeria’s energy crisis.

The company vehemently denied the allegations, stating that the claim was “totally false and misleading”. Dangote Refinery emphasized that their current stock of crude was purchased in dollars and sold to NNPCL in the same currency, resulting in significant savings compared to NNPCL’s current imports.

Dangote Refinery assured Nigerians that they are committed to making quality petroleum products available across the country, even in remote areas.

The company also disclosed that a formal announcement on pricing will be made by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on October 1, 2024.

In a strong statement, Dangote Refinery condemned NNPCL’s actions, stating that the false claims were a deliberate attempt to undermine the progress made towards addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity in Nigeria.

Their press statement which was signed by the group’s Chief branding and communications officer, Anthony Chiejina dated on the 15th of September, 2024, reads in full;

Our attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson, Mr Olufemi Soneye, that we sell our PMS at N898 per litre to the NNPCL.

This statement is both misleading and mischievous, deliberately aimed at undermining the milestone achievement recorded today, September 15, 2024, towards addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity, which has bedeviled the economy in the past 50 years.

We urge Nigerians to disregard this malicious statement and await a formal announcement on the pricing, by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, which will commence on October 1, 2024, bearing in mind that our current stock of crude was procured in dollars.

It should also be noted that we sold the products to NNPCL in dollars with a lot of savings against what they are currently importing. With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country regardless of their remote nature.

We assure Nigerians of availability of quality petroleum products and putting an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country.

Signed:

Anthony Chiejina

Group chief branding and communications officer.
