SCHOOL RESUMPTION WOES: Nigerian Parents Feel the Pinch as Costs Soar!

As the new academic calendar for the 2024/2025 session kicks off on September 9, parents in Nigeria are feeling the financial squeeze. The cost of tuition, transportation, and basic necessities has skyrocketed, leaving many families struggling to make ends meet.

“We’re really feeling the heat,” says Jessica Nana. “The price of everything has gone up, and it’s getting harder to provide for our kids.”

Another parent, Mr Chimuze Eze, a banker , equally stated, “We’re having to make tough choices between paying school fees and putting food on the table. It’s a constant struggle.”

The recent hike in fuel prices has only added to the burden, with transportation costs rising sharply. “It’s like a double whammy,” says Mr Joseph Okoh, a businessman. “We’re already stretched thin, and now we have to deal with higher transportation costs too.”

As the school year begins, parents are calling on the government to take action to ease the financial burden. “We need help,” says one parent. “We can’t keep going on like this.
