Efcc hands over vehicles, returns cyber fraud monies to canada
On Friday, the EFCC transferred 53 recovered vehicles and $180,300 to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on behalf of Canadian financial crime victims. Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the anti-graft agency, handed over the assets to RCMP representatives Nasser Sadiou and Mr. Robert Aboumitiri in Abuja.
The RCMP was informed that nine of the vehicles were at a customs port awaiting clearance. Of the recovered funds, $164,000 was returned to Canadian Elena Bogomas, who was a victim of a romance scam, while $16,300 was returned to another Canadian, Sandra Butler. One fraudster used his ill-gotten gains to purchase an estate, which was later sold to recover the funds after his arrest and conviction.
Olukoyede emphasized that financial crimes are increasingly global and sophisticated, often crossing borders, which underscores the need for international collaboration.
