Nigeria to Opt for Access to Global energy_ Minister for power

Minister for Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, has announced the Federal Government’s goal of achieving universal energy access in Nigeria by 2060, with an interim objective of reaching 30GW of grid energy supply by 2030. This announcement was made during the China-Nigeria Economic Cooperation and Trade Conference in Beijing, China, and was shared on the Ministry’s media platforms on September 5, 2024.

Adelabu outlined Nigeria’s Vision 30:30:30, which aims for 30GW of grid energy supply and a 30% renewable energy mix by 2030. He highlighted that these goals will foster collaboration with Chinese investors to promote cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

The Minister also mentioned that meter payments will be extended over 10 years and described the government’s multi-faceted strategy to address challenges in the electricity supply sector. This approach includes adopting new technologies, forming strategic partnerships, streamlining policies, and leveraging both public and private funding.

Adelabu emphasized that the agreement with China represents a valuable opportunity to enhance existing partnerships and explore new avenues for mutual growth and prosperity.
