Deal on standard commodities _SON and NAFDAC urges
The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have urged manufacture and importers to consult with them to ensure their products meet internationally recognized standards. This guidance was provided during the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) “International Business Conference & Expo 2024, Invest Nigeria.”
Mrs. Theresa Ojomo, Director of the Lagos Region for SON, emphasized that for importing or exporting goods in Nigeria, it’s crucial to adhere to the Nigerian Industrial Standards to ensure that production processes meet these standards. She noted that SON establishes these standards for local products and aligns them with international standards through the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Similarly, Mrs. Roseline Ajayi, Director of NAFDAC’s Southwest Zone, highlighted that NAFDAC holds World Health Organization (WHO) certification, which allows its certified products to be traded globally. She explained that NAFDAC’s regulatory authority extends beyond Nigeria, with inspections conducted internationally, including in Europe and the USA, to ensure compliance with global standards.
