Lukaku receives no.9 jersey as osimhen deal crashes
The 25-year-old striker was expected to leave on deadline day, but no deal materialized. Chelsea representatives remained in Naples until the very end of the transfer window on Friday, when they finally conceded that a deal could not be reached.
The Blues informed Napoli that they would take Osimhen on loan with a buyout obligation, but they were unable to come to an agreement on personal terms with the forward. In the meantime, Al Ahli signed Ivan Toney from Brentford for a whopping £40 million, despite having earlier that day.
The Nigerian ended up staying at Napoli despite his relationship with the club being broken; now, Osimhen no longer appears on the club website, while new signing Lukaku is listed as their No. 9 Talksport.
Chelsea was unwilling to match the terms on offer in Saudi Arabia and distaste to overspend on the deal due to Profit and Sustainability regulations.
