The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that nine registered political parties have obtained access codes required for the upload of candidates’ particulars ahead of the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.

The announcement was made by INEC National Commissioner in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, Mallam Mohammed Haruna, during an interaction with journalists in Abuja.

According to Haruna, the figure reflects political parties that had completed the collection process as of the close of business on Monday.

He explained that the collection of access codes forms part of the official nomination process through which political parties submit details of their candidates electronically to the commission.

The political parties that have collected the access codes are:

• Accord (A)

• Action Alliance (AA)

• African Democratic Congress (ADC)

• All Progressives Congress (APC)

• Labour Party (LP)

• National Democratic Congress (NDC)

• National Democratic Party (NDP)

• Peoples Redemption Party (PRP)

• Social Democratic Party (SDP)

Haruna clarified that it is the responsibility of each political party to approach INEC to obtain the access codes, stressing that the commission does not distribute them directly to party secretariats.

He further explained that any individual collecting the code on behalf of a political party must present an official authorisation letter from the party leadership.

The INEC official noted that the commission had already released detailed guidelines for candidate nomination and had also conducted training sessions for political party officials to ensure compliance with electoral procedures.

Haruna urged political parties to avoid delays and complete their nomination processes within the stipulated timelines.

According to him, parties should not wait until the final day to upload candidates’ details, warning that technical or administrative delays caused by late submissions would not be the responsibility of the commission.

“INEC has been generous by extending the deadline from close of work to midnight on the deadline date. If any political party chooses to wait until the last moment, the commission cannot be held responsible,” he stated.

INEC had earlier announced that political parties have until July 11, 2026, to upload nominations for presidential and National Assembly elections.

The commission also disclosed that submission of governorship and State House of Assembly nomination forms is scheduled to commence from July 18.

The development marks another major step in preparations for the 2027 general elections as political parties intensify internal processes ahead of candidate emergence.
