Police Confirm Attack On Borno School, Students Abduction

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed an attack on Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, located in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of the state, resulting in the abduction of an unspecified number of students.

According to reports, the attackers, suspected to be members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), stormed the school on Monday morning while students were writing the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination.

The gunmen reportedly arrived at about 9:00 a.m. and opened fire sporadically, creating panic among students, teachers and residents of the community.

Sources indicated that one teacher was killed during the incident, while another sustained injuries. However, authorities said details regarding casualties were still being verified.

Confirming the attack, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed that several students remained unaccounted for following the invasion.

At about 9 a.m., an unspecified number of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists attacked a secondary school and shot sporadically into the air. During the attack, an unspecified number of students were abducted, while some are still missing,” Daso stated.

He explained that the command could not immediately confirm reports of fatalities but assured that efforts were underway to establish the full details of the incident.

According to the police spokesperson, security agencies have launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation to secure the release of the abducted students.

He added that personnel of the Nigerian military, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), police operatives and the Area Commander in Askira/Uba had already commenced operations across surrounding forest areas.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
